NEW DELHI: In a major strategic business alliance, the subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), on Friday signed a $2-billion contract with the State Trading Corporation of Mauritius for supply of all the petroleum requirements of the Island nation for the next three years. This precedes the one-year contract between the two entities signed in 2006, which expires by the end of this month.

The new contract was inked by MRPL’s Managing Director R. Rajamani and STC’s General Manager R. S. Soomarooah at a simple ceremony here.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora, the Mauritian Minister of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce and Cooperatives, Rajesh Jeetah, the High Commissioner of Mauritius in India, M. Chooni and ONGC CMD R. S. Sharma were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Deora said he saw a lot of opportunities in not only exporting petroleum products to Mauritius but also in importing certain specific products from the island nation.
