It is really a shame to witness what is going on on the political front sides of Mauritius these days. On one hand we can see "trade Union" organising demonstration regarding the top up fees for SC?HSC. In his recent interview in our the the papers, the leading Trade Unionist who believes he is a Militant and will always remain Militant. Furthermore he was the MMM councillor for the Municipality of Port Louis. However he says that whatever he is doing has got nothing to do with politics. My friend, people are not so stupid in this country! It is clear that this trade unionist is in quest of a MMM "ticket" for the next election. It is clear the the demonstration against the SC/HSC top-up fees is nothing but a political demonstration and it has got nothing to do with students of this country. We should not forget that our parents and many others had to pay the full amout before 1998 and at that there was no one to demonstrate and to ask the governement to implement this policy.
Last week we have witnessed another demagogy in the political history of the MMM. I can still remember when Paul Berenger said that he would never welcome "transfuges" in his party. As always, Paul Raymond Berenger does the opposite of what he says. We witnessed how he welcomed Mr Lutchmenaraidoo. The MMM have always praised themselves as being the best team to rule the country and everytime MMM are in the opposition, they always shout on the rooftops that they have the solutions to every problems. What did Berenger do when he was in power from 2000-2005. Now Mr Berenger thinks that Mr Lutchmeenaraidoo is the key to all the problems in Mauritius. Let's not forget that Mr Lutchmeeranaidoo was refused to stand as a Labour candidate for the last general election. Though Lutchmeenaraidoo started his political career with the MMM, we should forget that he opposed to any alliance with the MMM in 1990. In 1983, Mr lutchmeeranaidoo attacked the 1982 budget of Berenger. If they really think that the Labour Government is governing the country wrongly, why don't they come up with their ideas of transforming Mauritius economy and making the country more prosperous. We should honest to ourselves ad it is clear that there are no other ways of bringing the country on track. If the economy of a country is not at its best, then nothing good will prevail in the country. That's a fact! It is hight time for Mauritian to stand on their feet and stop relying on subsidies. Nowadays Mauritians like to lead POSH life and when they are asked to pay something vital and help in contributing to boost the economy of the country, then the trade unionists will be the first one to say that whatever the government is doing is unfair. Let's be realistic! Trade Unionists are very much aware of how the economy of the country is in real mess. Doing nothing to bring the economy on the track means that the economy of the country will degenerate. There is no doubt that the economy of Mauritius has started to flourish. But this doesn't mean that we should return to the same old policies, i.e, splashing state money and doing "majo Karo". It is true that the first Navin's Government did very bad, but it is also true that this time they are taking the issue seriously and he means business. Navin promised to decrease the number of Minsters and he did it. He also promised after the 2005 election that no Ministers would be allowed to buy new cars and he did not go beyond his promise. Navin did not dismiss the ECO in order to save one of his ministers, instead he asked two of his Ministers to step down when they were accused of corruption. Nowadays justice prevails in this country. The Minister of Justice was found guilty by the court. What if a MMM member was in this situation? I am pretty that the DPP would have declare a Nolle Prosequi.
For the last year we have been hearing of Police Brutalities. Mr Raddhoa is the target of almost all political leaders and "Human Rights Campaigner". Here also we see how much demagogies are present. If the police does nothing and keep quiet, the opposition will be the first one to criticise the government on the law and order issue. In this situation, it is as if Mr Radhoa is the culprit and the criminals and thieves are the innocent. What's going on with this country??? Whenever things go wrong in the country, these are attributed to the Prime Minister.
The current government has commited itself to put the economy on the track and we are very much aware of how harsh the decisions are, but we have to be realistic and give them a hand in what they are doing. The consolidation and strengthening of the economy is very important. If the economy of Mauritius is at its best, then it is obvious that everything will run smoothly and all the population of Mauritius will get the fruits of Economic reforms.[/i] |
