AAJA NACHLE REVIEW rating 3.5/5 |
|
Madhuri Dixit is back and how... The actress chooses a big banner but a debutant director for her comeback film and doesn’t make a bad decision at all. The movie written by Chak De writer Jaideep Sahni has it all to grip you even though you might hate numerous songs which are unnecessarily prevalent in Hindi movies. It’s not about the music or the dance; it’s about coming back to your roots and fighting for what you believe in.
Sure, the idea of the underdog fighting to save something has been witnessed several times in the past. Goal, Chak De India, Lagaan and even Rang De Basanti dealt with the issue but at the same time each had a different story to tell. Aaja Nachle too falls in the same category.
In today’s time when choreographed song and dance is considered a hindrance to the film, Aaja Nachle comes in with its own uniqueness – the choreographed song and dance as part of a musical show. The music is cleverly inculcated into the screenplay and neither once do you feel that the film could have done without them.
Though there are many characters in the film, there isn’t one scene is inorganic. The Vinay Pathak – Sushmita Mukherjee, Irrfan Khan- Divya Dutta and even the Yashpal Sharma- Ranvir Sheorey subplots all end up giving a wonderful final product. The supporting ensemble cast is all a bundle of talent and they do really well be it during the final show or just about any other time.
One just wonders from where Jugal Hansraj emerges out of nowhere into his millionth comeback (in Yashraj banner only).
Cinematographers are known to go overboard with the camera when they turn directors and there was enough opportunity for Anil Mehta to do just that. But thankfully, he refrains from doing so and we don’t have weird unnecessary camera angles fluttering around which makes no difference to the same. Simplistically but beautifully shot, Anil Mehta does a fine job for a debutant director.
The magic of writer Jaideep Sahni continues once again and he comes up with another winner after Chak De India .
Madhuri Dixit as we all know is an established actresses but the question arises is whether she still has it in her after the long hiatus of acting. Pull out my brains, throw them onto the ground and do the salsa over it for having such a thought. Madhuri has always been a natural and it’s just great to see her back on screen once again. Clearly the star of the show, the queen is back and can give today’s youngsters a run for their dancing heels.
Aaja Nachle is a light-hearted film all the way. Go watch it.
